New Delhi: Dwayne Smith recently opened up about his time playing in Mumbai, sharing his insights on his interactions with legendary players and his journey in the ongoing tournament. In a conversation with the media, he discussed the experience of opening the batting with a cricketing icon, the valuable lessons learned from playing alongside some of the game’s greats, and the impact it has had on his game. Smith also talked about his team’s strong start in the tournament and his aspirations for future leagues, expressing his excitement at the prospect of facing cricketing legends once again. Reflecting on his career, he shared cherished memories and conveyed a message to fans ahead of the upcoming matches.

During my time in Mumbai, I always made an effort to stay close to him. Since we opened the batting together, I wanted to understand the person I was sharing the crease with. I would stick around, ask him questions, and observe his methods. He was always welcoming, extremely supportive, and generous with his knowledge. Watching him prepare for matches made it clear why he was such a great player—his dedication, discipline, and approach to the game set him apart.

A Strong Start to the Tournament
The tournament has been an exciting journey so far. Winning the first two matches has given our team a strong start, and the atmosphere in the camp is upbeat. Our skipper is rejoining us for the next game, and with him back in action, the cricket ahead promises to be even more thrilling.

Playing Alongside a Cricketing Prince
It’s always special to play with him. I remember watching him break records as a young player, and later, I was fortunate enough to be in the team when he achieved his incredible 400-run milestone—a moment that coincidentally happened on my birthday. Batting with him has always been a pleasure; we’ve had some great partnerships, and there’s a sense of calm when he’s at the crease. His presence alone brings confidence to the team.

Future Plans After the International Masters League
I hope to be part of more leagues in the future. The International Masters League is expanding, and I’d love to see it grow further. I’m particularly interested in playing in leagues in South Africa, Australia, and England. It would be incredible to establish something similar in the West Indies as well. Hopefully, we can find the right support to make that happen, as it would be a great addition to the cricketing world.

Facing the ‘God of Cricket’ Once Again
Playing with Sachin Tendulkar has always been a special experience. I still remember my first IPL season, batting alongside him. He advised me to keep hitting straight and avoid risky cuts or pulls—but then, in typical Sachin style, he went ahead and played those exact shots! He turned to me with a smirk and said, “Do as I say, not as I do.” That moment has stayed with me ever since.

Opening the batting with him in Mumbai was a dream come true. Walking out behind him, I often wondered whether the roaring cheers were meant for me too! Playing against him now brings back all those memories, and it’s an honor to once again share the field with a legend.

A Message to the Fans
To all my fans—come out and support us! I’ll give it my all and try my best to entertain you in the next match. Let’s make it a memorable one!
